Earn the margin

There are not enough IT companies supporting FreePBX in the UK. The more we looked at it, the stranger that seemed.

FreePBX is mature, widely deployed and capable of replacing expensive per-user communications platforms, yet remarkably few normal UK IT companies and MSPs openly support it.

We want to make that easier.

The principle

We don't give MSPs margin on FreePBX. We give them a platform on which they can make margin

We are not going to inflate a £15 hosting service to £25 so that we can hand £10 back to somebody in the channel and call it your reseller margin. All that does is rip off the end user.

The MSP should make money from the things the MSP actually does: deployment, configuration, integration, SIP trunks, hardware, support, maintenance, administration and responsibility.

Why resellers?

Bring telephony into IT

MSPs already manage Microsoft 365, firewalls, switches, endpoints, backups, connectivity and security. Telephony is often treated as though it belongs in a completely separate industry.

It doesn't. A modern phone system is software running over IP infrastructure.

The gap is usually not the customer's IT environment. It is the FreePBX, SIP and call-routing knowledge required to deliver the telephone system properly.

We want to make it easier for IT companies and MSPs to add FreePBX to the services they already provide.

Reseller benefits

What you get

The point is to give you the environment, knowledge and access needed to build your own FreePBX service without turning the hosting itself into an artificial wholesale-margin exercise.

Benefit What it means
Nano² free for 24 months Your first Nano² hosting plan is free for 24 months from the date you become a FreePBX UK Reseller. After 24 months it reverts to the normal published price.
Head of Product Up to one hour per calendar month with Kieran, Head of Product, for practical FreePBX, deployment or product discussions. Unused time does not roll over.
Signed Community Modules Free support for signed community modules supported by FreePBX UK, including Registration Watch.
Beta Access Early access to selected community modules while they are still in development and beta testing.
Reseller Status The right to describe your business as a FreePBX UK Reseller while the reseller relationship remains active.
Getting started

Three steps

Start by creating your FreePBX UK account. Once that exists, you can complete the remaining reseller setup.

Your account credit

£300 reseller credit

The £300 is not a joining fee. As part of reseller setup, you add £300 of non-refundable credit to your FreePBX UK account.

The full amount stays on your account for you to spend on eligible FreePBX UK services. We do not take £300 simply for giving you reseller status.

It is the commercial commitment behind the relationship: real credit for a business that genuinely intends to use FreePBX UK, rather than a charge for a badge.

£300

100% yours to spend

Non-refundable and not withdrawable as cash, but credited in full to your FreePBX UK account for eligible services.

Reseller benefit

Nano² is on us

Your first Nano² hosting plan is free for the first 24 months. At the current £15 monthly price, that is £360 of hosting included.

Order it using promo code RESELLER.

Use it for your own telephone system, as a demonstration platform, to learn FreePBX, or as the starting point for building your service.

The free Nano² does not use any of your £300 reseller credit during those first two years.

At the end of the 24-month period, the Nano² simply reverts to the standard published price. Any remaining account credit can then be used towards it or any other eligible FreePBX UK services.

The economics

Where's the margin?

Not in the hosting

Nano² hosting starts at £15 per month for the entire system. At 20 users that is 75p per user. At 50 users it is 30p.

We are not going to manufacture a reseller discount by raising that price first.

FreePBX UK Resellers must charge the current published FreePBX UK price for the hosting plan and show the hosting separately on the customer's invoice. Beyond that, what you charge for your own services is entirely up to you.

Try the numbers

Build one customer

Set the size of the customer and the value of your services. The example moves through the current published hosting plans as the customer grows.

Illustrative plan Nano²
Hosting per user 60p
Total per user £4.80
Example customer invoice
Official FreePBX® Hosting – Nano² £15.00
Managed PBX Support £75.00
SIP Trunks, Numbers & Calls £30.00
Total £120.00
The hosting price remains transparent. The reseller earns margin from the service built around it.

Illustrative only. User count alone is not a reliable way to size a FreePBX system. Concurrent calls, call recording, queues, integrations and the wider workload must also be considered. View current hosting plans.

Your business

Sell your service

We are not asking you to resell a FreePBX UK-branded telephone service.

FreePBX UK provides the hosting underneath. You name, brand, package and sell the service you build around it.

Your value may be in system design, migration, SIP trunks, call flows, phones, number ports, security, backups, upgrades, monitoring, administration, integrations, support or on-site engineering.

That is where the value sits, and where the reseller should make their money.

Customer ownership

Your customer stays yours

You own the commercial relationship and you invoice the customer.

FreePBX UK will not use information supplied through the reseller relationship to solicit your managed customers for competing services.

We provide the underlying FreePBX UK service. You remain responsible for the proposition you sell around it.

Experience

You don't need to be an expert

If you already understand FreePBX and Asterisk, very little about this will be unfamiliar.

If you are a competent MSP but telephony is new territory, that is precisely where a relationship with FreePBX UK can help.

Your monthly time with our Head of Product can be used to discuss deployment design, migration approaches, FreePBX-specific problems or the practicalities of adding telephony to your existing services.

There should be more people in the UK who know how to support FreePBX properly, not fewer.

Open source ecosystem

Community modules

FreePBX UK Resellers receive free support for signed community modules supported by FreePBX UK, including Registration Watch.

That support relates to the module itself: installation, configuration, operation and faults attributable to the module. It is not an unlimited engineering commitment for every PBX, network, mail server or third-party service the module may interact with.

Resellers can also receive early access to selected community modules while they are in beta. That provides a technically capable testing group before wider release and gives resellers useful new functionality earlier in the development cycle.

Beta means beta. Development releases should be evaluated and tested accordingly rather than assumed to be production-ready.

How to describe it

FreePBX UK Reseller

While the reseller relationship remains active, you may describe your business as a FreePBX UK Reseller.

That describes your commercial relationship with FreePBX UK and identifies systems supplied under that relationship as being hosted or supplied by us.

Keep the distinction clear

  • FreePBX UK Reseller status does not grant independent rights to use FreePBX or Sangoma logos.
  • You must comply with Sangoma's applicable trademark and legal requirements when referring to FreePBX®.
  • Describe the relationship as FreePBX UK Reseller.
  • Do not describe yourself as an “Official FreePBX Reseller”, “Official FreePBX Partner” or “Sangoma Reseller” unless you separately hold the relevant rights or appointment.
  • FreePBX® is a registered trademark of Sangoma Technologies.

Bring 10

The right price gets it sold. The right incentive gives it direction

I have already been clear that there is no reseller margin built into FreePBX UK, but that does not mean there is no incentive to grow with us.

We don't give MSPs margin on FreePBX. We give them a platform on which they can make margin.

In Bets Are Open, I said I would talk volume. Bring real numbers, bring them consistently, and there is a conversation to be had. Bring 10 is the first example of what I meant.

Every reseller starts with a FreePBX UK account and adds £300 of non-refundable credit to spend with us, with no expiry. It is a fair and basic commercial commitment, not a joining fee.

Get 10 hosting plans live with FreePBX UK within your first three months and we will add another £300 to your account.

The 10 do not have to be new customers. If you already manage FreePBX elsewhere and want to migrate those systems across, bring them.

The telecoms industry has spent decades treating reseller margin as though it is the only measure of a good channel relationship. I don't accept the premise, because more margin means very little when growth has stalled and the bills are mounting. I've been there.

Margin does not promise the next customer. It does not create opportunities or give you a reason to go and win the next order. It simply tells you how much you might make when something eventually happens.

I use incentives to encourage growth and give resellers a platform they can build on, without making the end user fund it through inflated pricing or another round of price increases.

Margin has to exist in the price before someone can make anything from it. The more layers that expect their percentage, the further the price moves away from the underlying cost of providing the service. The end user pays for all of it.

I want an end user who is knowingly Paying For Free to understand exactly what they are buying. For the value to be in the work, and for every line item on the invoice to be worth it.

What I won't do is artificially inflate the price of the underlying platform simply to create a space between two numbers and call the difference a fair margin. That's fattening the pie with a reseller tax.

We can help resellers win business, support migrations, share opportunities as they arise, and build knowledge and capability. We will put increasingly rewarding incentives behind activities that bring more users into the FreePBX ecosystem.

Bring 10 offer terms

The practical terms of the introductory reseller incentive.

Eligibility

Available to new FreePBX UK Resellers who have completed reseller setup and added the required £300 of non-refundable account credit.

Qualifying period

Ten qualifying FreePBX UK hosting plans must be live within the reseller's first three months from the date the reseller relationship begins.

What counts

Both new deployments and existing FreePBX systems migrated to FreePBX UK can count towards the ten live hosting plans.

Reward

Once ten qualifying hosting plans are live within the qualifying period, FreePBX UK will add £300 of account credit to the reseller's account.

Account credit

The £300 reward is account credit, has no cash value and is not refundable or transferable. It may be used towards eligible FreePBX UK services.

One reward per reseller

Bring 10 is an introductory incentive and can be earned once per reseller account unless FreePBX UK expressly agrees otherwise.

Hosting plans must remain genuine live customer or reseller deployments. Cancelled, refunded, duplicate, test or otherwise artificial services do not count towards the ten.

Scale

What about volume?

There are no artificial Bronze, Silver and Gold tiers and no automatic wholesale discount simply for calling yourself a reseller.

Genuine, substantial, consistent and well-managed volume can change the underlying economics. If you reach that point, there is obviously a commercial conversation to be had.

Bring real numbers, bring them consistently and bring them with the engineering discipline to support what you sell.

It is about volume, not manufactured margin.

Questions

Reseller FAQs

How much does it cost to become a FreePBX UK Reseller?

There is no separate joining fee. As part of reseller setup you add £300 of non-refundable credit to your FreePBX UK account, and the full £300 remains yours to spend on eligible FreePBX UK services.

Is the £300 a joining fee?

No. It is non-refundable account credit, not a fee that FreePBX UK keeps for granting reseller status. The full £300 remains on your account for eligible FreePBX UK services.

Why is the £300 credit non-refundable?

It establishes genuine commercial intent while leaving the full value available for you to spend with FreePBX UK. It is not intended to be a refundable route to reseller benefits or free hosting.

What order do I need to do things in?

Create your FreePBX UK account first. Once the account exists, complete the remaining reseller setup: order your Nano² using promo code RESELLER and add £300 of non-refundable account credit.

Do I get a free PBX?

Your first Nano² hosting plan is free for 24 months from the start of your reseller relationship.

What happens to Nano² after 24 months?

Nothing changes technically. It becomes a normal paid Nano² at the then-current published price. Available account credit can be used towards the charge.

Does the free Nano² use my £300 account credit?

No. Your first Nano² is free for the first 24 months, so your £300 reseller credit remains available for other eligible FreePBX UK services during that period.

What promo code do I use for Nano²?

Use promo code RESELLER when ordering your first Nano².

Do resellers receive a hosting discount?

No. FreePBX UK does not artificially increase its hosting prices in order to create a reseller discount. The published hosting price is the price.

Can I mark up FreePBX UK hosting?

No. The FreePBX UK hosting plan must be charged at the current published FreePBX UK price and shown separately on the customer's invoice.

What can I charge for everything else?

Whatever is commercially appropriate for the service you provide. That may include deployment, migration, SIP trunks, telephone numbers, calls, handsets, configuration, administration, monitoring, support, maintenance, integrations, consultancy and on-site engineering.

Why must the hosting be shown separately?

Price transparency is part of the model. The customer should be able to see the cost of the underlying hosting and the value being charged for by the reseller around it.

Who invoices the customer?

You do. You own the customer relationship and invoice for the complete service you provide.

Will FreePBX UK approach my customers?

We will not use information provided through your reseller relationship to solicit your managed customers for competing services.

Do I get direct access to your Head of Product?

Yes. Resellers receive up to one hour per calendar month with Kieran, Head of Product. Unused time does not roll over.

Are signed community modules included?

Free support is provided for signed community modules supported by FreePBX UK, including Registration Watch. That support relates to the module itself rather than unrelated infrastructure or unlimited project work.

Will I get access to beta modules?

Resellers may receive early access to selected community modules while they are in beta development. Beta software should be treated as testing and evaluation software until formally released.

Do I need to be a FreePBX expert?

No. The reseller relationship is intended to be useful both to experienced FreePBX providers and competent IT companies that want to develop their telephony capability.

Can I brand the telephone service as my own?

Yes. You can name, package and brand the managed service you provide. The underlying FreePBX UK hosting must remain separately identifiable and applicable FreePBX and Sangoma trademark requirements still apply.

Can I call myself an Official FreePBX Reseller?

No. The designation provided by this relationship is FreePBX UK Reseller. It does not imply that your company has been independently appointed, certified or authorised by Sangoma.

Can I use the FreePBX or Sangoma logos?

FreePBX UK Reseller status does not itself grant rights to use Sangoma or FreePBX logos. Any use must comply with the applicable trademark rules and any rights you independently hold.

Are there volume discounts?

There is no automatic reseller discount or tiered margin structure. Genuine, substantial and consistent volume may justify a separate commercial discussion.

What happens if I stop being a reseller?

Your right to describe yourself as a FreePBX UK Reseller and any reseller-only benefits end with the reseller relationship. Any remaining account credit is subject to the applicable account and reseller terms, including the non-refundable nature of reseller account credit.

Does my £300 reseller credit expire?

No. The £300 remains on your FreePBX UK account as non-refundable credit with no expiry while the account remains available for eligible FreePBX UK services.

What can I use my £300 reseller credit for?

It can be used against eligible FreePBX UK services billed to your account. It is account credit rather than cash, so it cannot be withdrawn or transferred as money.

Do I need 10 new customers to qualify for Bring 10?

No. Both new deployments and existing FreePBX systems that you already manage and migrate to FreePBX UK can count towards the ten qualifying live hosting plans.

When does my three-month Bring 10 period start?

The qualifying period runs from the date your FreePBX UK reseller relationship begins. Ten qualifying hosting plans must be live within those first three months.

What happens if I only reach nine hosting plans?

Bring 10 requires ten qualifying hosting plans to be live within the qualifying period, so nine does not earn the £300 Bring 10 reward. The incentive is separate from your underlying reseller relationship.

Can I earn the Bring 10 reward more than once?

Normally, no. Bring 10 is an introductory incentive and can be earned once per reseller account unless FreePBX UK expressly agrees otherwise.

Is Bring 10 required to remain a reseller?

No. Bring 10 is an introductory growth incentive, not a Bronze, Silver or Gold tier and not a requirement to earn or retain a reseller discount.

Can I migrate customers I already manage?

Yes. Existing FreePBX systems can be migrated to FreePBX UK. They can also count towards Bring 10 where they meet the qualifying offer terms.

Do I have to use FreePBX UK SIP trunks or telephone numbers?

No. FreePBX UK hosting does not require a particular SIP trunk, number or call provider. Telephony services are separate from the hosting service, so you can use a suitable provider for the service you build for your customer.

Who provides support to my customer?

You own the customer relationship and decide what managed support you sell around the platform. FreePBX UK hosting is self-managed; support outside the hosting service or any specific reseller benefit remains a separate service.

Can I move a hosted customer away later?

Yes. FreePBX UK hosting is supplied on a rolling monthly basis rather than a long minimum term. If a customer is leaving, arrange any backup or migration work you need before the hosting service is cancelled and the instance is removed.

What happens if FreePBX UK changes its hosting prices?

The current published FreePBX UK hosting price is the price that must be shown to your customer. Pricing changes are notified in advance under the applicable terms, and resellers should update their own websites, price lists and customer notices accordingly.

Are the prices shown including VAT?

No. Published FreePBX UK prices exclude VAT. VAT is added at the prevailing UK rate where applicable.

Is there a minimum hosting term?

No. FreePBX UK hosting runs month to month. The reseller £300 reseller credit is separate from the hosting service and does not turn the hosting itself into a long-term contract.

Anything else?

Absolutely. If there is something we have not covered, call us on 03303 01 02 03 or email Kieran directly at [email protected]. If you are considering FreePBX for a customer and want to talk through whether the reseller model fits, we would rather have the conversation than leave you guessing.
